My grandparents had everything arranged and prepaid. Then, my mother came along and threw all that out and used up the modest amount they'd left in their CDs (which they'd put mother's name on years ago, once she was the only surviving child) to give them expensive funerals. By the time she was done, she'd actually gone a few thousand into debt herself.
