My son did that too, but it was in middle school. We knew he was being bullied. The bullying was racial and xenophobic; he's half-Persian. It was so hard to watch him go through that. It was made worse because the principal and school cop profiled him.

I wish I'd recorded that cop telling my gentle, empathetic son was "going to be prone to violence problems" because he's Middle Eastern.
