My son used to always end up feeling like this with my kin. They expected him not to get hyper ("wild" they called it) when they got him wound up. Yet, they also expected him to stay in the thick of things when he tried to find a quiet corner to decompress.

My kin thought he should be punished out of those behaviors. Both behaviors are the result of sensory overload. You can't punish away sensory overload.
