My son's diagnosis came as a shock too. He was so loving and whip-smart. I had a difficult time accepting that his ADHD wasn't something he'd grow out of. I also felt guilty, thought maybe having him at 40 was the cause, or not being healthy enough before I got pregnant. Of course, that was silly; all the other moms of kids on The Spectrum in his school years were much healthier than I'd ever been, and often much younger than me.
