Nothing stops conservatives from living however they choose to. But, conservatives want to stop everyone else from living differently than they do.

IME, it's down to bullying. Bullying is from lacking sense of self-worth and feeling unempowered out of fear of all things different than themselves – fear engenders hate and hate leads to bullying. So, the bully feels they must assert dominance and take power from others to grasp at even the romotest sense of worth, because they seem to believe that anyone different must be a threat.
