Plus, the political divide amounts to the middle of the country and the deep south, with blue states in the northeast and the west. It couldn't be two countries in a break up like that. It would be three or more. They deep south is like as not going to demand being their own country unto themselves — so, that would mean four countries in the split.

Of course, it could mean be none of that. After all, every state has big fat military bases of the world's best armed, best trained military in the world, still under the control of the president in DC. Unlike the Civil War, the military for the Union is already in place to defend the Union. The 2nd Amendment folks might have personal arsenals. But, the US military has tanks and bombers and balistic missles.
