Prejudices may be passed down. But, children often grow up in opposition to their parents, particularly with authoritarian parents.

I'm seeing this with my son's peers. We live in NC. Authoritarian parenting abounds. I'm watching kids of such parents, in real time, choosing more liberal positions which their parents abhor. In fact, I've worried we'll be seeing a generation of young adults who are disconnected from kinship ties. I've been through that in my own adulthood and there is little in the way of cultural or societal support for those of us who find we must step away from those kinship ties for our own well being.
