Same! I could sit in café all day sketching people. Sadly, it makes folks uncomfortable and they will leave. I stopped doing that when we had a café. If it lost us customers, it lost all those other café owners customers when I used to do that. It was one of my favorite pastimes in college. Thinking back, I must have driven dozens upon dozens of students from the Student Union and Tiger Den (our food court).
