Same. I read someone's post yesterday that Medium thought should take nine minutes. It took me about five minutes. As for the 30 second requirement, that's really simple — lock the claps until the reader has been on the page for 30 seconds; don't let the claps be at all active until that point.

This would have the added benefit of ending the clap-jumpers who clap for half a dozen posts in less than a minute, trying to cheat people into genuine engagement on their own posts. I loathe clap-jumping. If I see it, I will not read anything by that author. If I'm already following them, I immediately unfollow.
