TBF, they did resuscitate the monarchy after the English civil war, and again after Edward VIII abdicated. Those were extremely different times and not particularly comparable to now. Those resusciations were also led by royals who seem to have been much more gifted and charismatic as public figures. Charles seems a bit of dud, celebrity personality-wise.
