Thank you. Yes. LBJ's war record was terrible; I think he got into it in the throes of "big dickery," to which he was prone. His administration did seek to find a diplomatic end to the war. I think that was only because the war was hugely unpopular Stateside and sure to torpedo LBJ's reelection; it was likely the reason he didn't seek reelection in 1968, I think. But, those diplomatic efforts weren't helped by Nixon undercutting diplomatic efforts to prevent the LBJ administration from negotiating a peace there – because, if LBJ ended the war, that might have hurt Nixon's presidential hopes. LBJ might have dragged the nation into that conflict, but Nixon's machinations kept America bogged down in that war for eight more years.
