I can't say I appreciated the advice in my 20s and 30s. I'd been living with most of my issues all my life, even then. I'd seen dozens upon dozens of doctors by the time I was in my 20s. I'd even been to Duke medical research center for them to look for some unifying – and hopefully treatable – condition underlaying the constellation of issues… alas, to no avail.

Someone told me once a few years ago that I should respond with something along the lines of, "Oh, my doctors must be idots. Shall I put you in touch with them so you can advise them?"

I've never been able to bring myself to be so caustically rude… yet.
