That is a lie! It is another Trump lie. To score scare points on his cult, he's telling disaster victims that there's no help coming for them because they vote for him. That lie is full-blown projection on his part because, as POTUS, Trump actually tried to withhold wildfire disaster relief to California. Staffers had to show him that he had more voters in the disaster zone than in all of Idaho before he'd agree! And, Trump literally diverted FEMA funds — while Maria was bearing down on Puerto Rico — to fund his immigration tyranny of keeping seized babies in fucking cages!
No, FEMA has NOT had it's funding cut even a little but under Biden; in fact, it's been increased. Not only that, the Trumpy Republican politicians of those red states hit by Helene can't praise FEMA enough for the response in Tennessee, Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina, and especially North Carolina. And, Florida after both Helene and Milton.
However, Trump and his MAGA Republicans do have a 900-page plan of action that intends to do away with FEMA, NOAA, the Dept of Education, the Dept of Health and Human Services, The Environmental Protection Agency, and so, sooooo much more. Democrats are diametrically opposed to pretty much the entirety of Project 2025's agenda of cruelty.
Y'know what else Trump's lies about FEMA have caused? He made people scared and despondent. New applications for aid dropped because he said they'd be denied, that money for them had gone to flood immigrants across the southern border. Not only did applications for aid drop, the number of volunteers dropped. That means that there's less rotation for the volunteers who do turn up because there's no one to share the rotation. It also means fewer hands and hearts on that mountain trying to find the hundreds still missing. It means fewer hands to help locals start to recover, to get some semblance of normalcy before the mountain snow sets in.
Republican politicians across North Carolina, and throughout the other hard hit states, have been begging Trump and his campaign to stop this misinformation. Please don't share his lies.
The freezing nights are imminent in western North Carolina in the coming weeks. FEMA and all the volunteers who've showed up are focused on getting the locals to a point of survival through this winter.
People are going to die — again — because of Trump's lies.
