That is not what is happening here in the red-enclaves of the US. The intent is to protect white-identity ideals – and Dominion in the world. It is to prevent education that in any way challenges the narrow ideals of the white superiority of capitalist theocratic fundamentalist Christian nationalism.
CRT was never taught in children's schools. It is a law school model for an aspect of legal studies. The removal of books by and about non-white and/or LGBTQ authors and families is an intention to erase those people from the education and awareness of white children. It is to indoctrinate white children of their superiority and to impose inferiority upon everyone else. Florida has struck down the use of MATH BOOKS on these grounds. Creationism is again being foisted on teaching as valid science. The teaching of basic true history is being suppressed to uphold white-identity superiority. For cripes sake, Texas is changing "slavery" to "forced relocation" in history books! And, it doesn't stop with shool curriculum and libraries.
Libraries in rural areas in red states have been defunded and shuttered. School library shelves are half empty in some red state schools. Even in a liberal enclave like Wake County North Carolina, my son's elementary school library was half empty – and that was a decade ago. Things have only gotten worse. The library at the Tennessee high school of my nephew (who is my son's age) is only open a couple of times a week and most of the shelves are empty; his town has no public library at all – in fact, the nearest library to him is forty minutes away, in Memphis.
Librarians have received death threats from these extremists. Teachers and Librarians are under duress and the impact on their mental health is seeing a flood of them leaving their careers behind. The people who would fight against the censorship and book banning are being driven out. Succeeding in doing so, do you really think the "parents' rights" school boards will replace them with anyone who will challenge their censorship?
As I said previously, the intent is definately to ban books to the point of erasure of ideas and demographics. They are pushing for the removal of teachers and librarians who don't just roll over. They are fomenting abuse and dangerous threats against those public servants. The practical result can only be the fulfillment of their intent – the erasure of ideas they don't like. If that's not book banning, what is it?
