That is where blame lies. "Faith" should mean a journey to be better. When it doesn't it is just empty words.

As to "immutable laws of science," that and faith are not mutually exclusive. As to "something for which no evidence exists," there are many, many, many, theories for the "immutable lwas of science" which exist ONLY as theories and not as proven, immutable scientific fact. We trust the science, even in the theoretical stages. I trust my faith in the God who is love; and I don't harbor a simplistic fantasy of a magical sky-daddy God-slave.

Also, even Neil DeGrasse Tyson has agreed with a priest, whom he tried to counter, that the Biblical creation story ("God said let there be light") can be a simple allegory for the Big Bang Theory. Moreover, the actual BBT and the expansion of the universe were first posited by a Catholic priest (Lemaiter – I'm not sure of the spelling) his theory of an expanding universe was later confirmed by Hubble Telescope observations.

Much of the Bible is allegory – is it the fault of the allegory that the simple-minded neither understand nor accept allegory?

And, I say again, you are doing precisely the kind of thing my essay is addressing. And, you're trying to make me wrong to prove yourself right. You have your beliefs and they serve you well. You're a good person who tries to be kind. I make the same efforts in my life. What is served by decrying the faith which inspires and guides my trying to live my life according the life and teachings of Jesus?

By all means, decry the hypocrisy which is the antithesis of all Jesus is recorded to have taught and done. But, just as I won't throw out the "immutable laws of science" because sometimes scientists don't have all the answers, I will not cast aside the God who is love from my heart.
