That's actual a time-honored tradition. It wasn't always a monetary tip, however. We used to share a hot beverage (hot apple cider as a personal preference) and/or baked goods in a bit of wax paper (so they don't have to touch it to eat it). I would presume, though, since the pandemic, that tipping them at Christmas has become a monetary only tip.
