That's beautiful. While it's true an alcoholic can only quit by their own determination, a good partner can be the reason for that determination.

It was that way for my grandfather, my grandmother's second husband. He came back from Korea an alcoholic. He struggled for years to quit, long before he met my Gran again. (They'd been children in the same school house. She hired him to work for her. He kept asking her to marry him for years. She always said no. But, she was always there to pick up the pieces when he needed someone. One day, sitting in the passenger seat drinking a beer, he finally asked her why she wouldn't marry him. She pointed at that beer and told him it was the reason. He poured the remainder out the window and never took another drink.

They were married forty-one years and passed within months of one another.
