The Arc of Degradation of the Republican Party

In broad strokes, when the Democrat Party became the party of civil rights, the Dixiecrats who fled the DNC were lured in by the GOP and Nixon’s Southern Strategy. The Republican Party has been degrading ever since, year by year, election by election. At every level of government, we’ve watched the GOP use their power to disenfranchise voters and to bully or buy the rest of the free world into just looking the other way. This began the arc of the degradation of the “Party of Lincoln” so lauded for freeing the slaves; freedom for all has not been their ideology for at least half a century.

The GOP have used their power to undercut our constitutional democratic republic at every turn. They’ve spent more than half a century chipping away at our institutions, undercutting education, suppressing progressive votes and progress itself, undercutting our democracy by working to impose a Dominionist vision of a theocratic corporate feudal state where we are all required to just shut up and work until we die under a veneer of religiosity and patriotism.
