The article linked here is actually a refutation of the Globe reporting. The queen doesn't have to power to remove anyone from the line of succession. And, Charles has been vocal for some time – even before Harry married – about paring down the number of people covered under the royal households budgets. He had already downsized his siblings' families.

I think it is more likely that when Harry and Meghan decided to step away, the royals accepted it because it further downsized the households budgets. Having stepped back, protocols fell into place that from the outside look like some kind of punishment or bias; but those protocols are as established as the monarchy itself.

I do agree the couple have been ill treated by Britain's media and that has emboldened the worst bigoted elements in the populace. I also have no difficulty someone – probably an old-timer or a an old retainer – in the royal household made those comments about little Archie. I believe what they told Oprah. And, we've long known the old guard retainers are typically conservatives by any standard.
