The real doctor upon whom the series is based may have been a teen. But, I double checked and found a report saying the doctor in the series is a 29-year old with autism.

We actually started watching it because my son – who is on the Spectrum – was eager to watch someone high achieving in spite of being on the Spectrum. He was especially interested because he was headed toward a career in medicine. He really is that young a provider as your satire lampoons.

Full disclosure: My son graduated from a high school Health Sciences Career Academy as a full certified EMT last June. He's graduating in a few days from his county EMS academy, and will be going on to train as full paramedic in the county EMS apprenticeship program (i.e., the county is paying for his training as a paramedic while he's working as an EMT). He'll be not quite 23 if he remains on schedule with his studies and graduation to full paramedic.

Of course, my son hasn't looked like a teenager since he was 15. In 2018, when he stayed at my hospital bedside during a health crisis, the doctors and nurses all thought and spoke to him as if he were an adult – one of them even said they thought he was in his 20s. In fact, when he was just before his 16th birthday, he went on his own, traveling by train, to visit his godmother. Because he was still technically 15, he was seated in the section where kids travelling alone are monitored. In Richmond with the shift change, a new car monitor came through, saw my son sitting with the other minors travelling alone and asked the guy he was relieving why he was there and said very loudly, "That's a grown-assed man." LOL

To be fair, right now at 19, he's a half-Persian, hairy, bearded behemoth of a man at 6'2" and 240 LBS. Several of his coworkers have been gobsmacked to find out he's that young. One of his field training supervisors thought he was 25 or 30. He's the youngest member of this graduating academy by several years. He's been told that level of maturity on the job and his knowledge is the equal of EMTs transferring to the county EMS with several years of field experience.
