This is what the abuse wing of society does all the time. They twist positive imagery and ideals into something hateful, corrupt, and abusive. The Nazi's twisted the swastika from an ancient symbol of prosperity and good fortune into the most reviled symbol of evil in human history. The American rightwing agenda twisted the concept of "pro-life" into dehumanizing women by stripping them of bodily sovereignty. Fundamentalist evangelicals twisted Jesus – a brown skinned, one time immigrant refugee, itinerant preacher teaching compassion, kindness, peace and love – into their gun-toting, woman-hating, immigrant-blaming, LGBTQ-condeming, poor people judging, warmongering republican Jeebus.

Of course the same people who turned covid into a political divide are coopting inclusive language. There is a fundamental flaw in humanity: that flaw is inhumanity.
