Trump and MAGA are the culmination of a rightwing devolution that began at least as far back as Nixon, maybe further. Though I think it likely began earlier, I'd say, the path of that fall is undeniable from the time the Old Southern Democrats fled the party for the GOP after the passage of the Civil Rights Act of 1964.
