We all run into someone who reacts badly to something with which we respond that we thought was inocuous. I'm not sure we can blame the "inocuous" response or the responder in most cases.

IME, most cases come down the self-confidence or self-image of the original poster. You never know what kind of self-doubt another person is going through.

In other cases, it could be a bit of culture clash. People from all around the world write here. We often don't know what with culture we find ourselves engaging. What is colloquially inocuous to us, may be taken literally and insultingly. For example, I'm married to a Persian. Early on, we both ran into colloqualisms that rankled.
