Well, here in the States, Christmas is over the 26th – even if the 25th fell on a Sunday and you have the day off for observance of the federal holiday on the 26th. Our tradition – going back to at least my great grandparents – is that the tree goes up on the evening of Thanksgiving and usually stays up until after the New Year. We use an artificial tree, so… no problem keeping it green and the needles in full. Some folks, myself included, leave the Nativity out until Epiphany.

There was also a tradition of placing an ornament or set of ornaments on the tree each day, by a different member of the family each day – usually a child, with a hope or blessing for the season and/or coming year. By Christmas Eve, the tree was packed with decorations – my great grandparents raised 16 children and there were dozens of grandchildren, plus dozens upon dozens of great grandchildren.
