Well, in my case… my "created family" did not include anyone with whom I share DNA after my dearly loved grandparents passed — except for my son. My kin may be related by DNA; but, they've long made it clear they were not going to be my family. My family are the people I drew around me, closer than friends, who became the family I needed, plus my husband and then our son. I created my family.
