…as coming to them, although it was hard to see. And that was part of what made the book depressing. It’s almost like the author wanted to punish these women and left no room for their redemption.
Did the feminism boat miss them or did they jump off of it?

Maybe it's not fiction. If it's an "autobiography," perhaps it was self-flagellation in writing. That's always depressing.
