When we had our flooring replaced a couple of years ago, the senior service only covered laminate to replace the carpeting. Our house is on a concrete subfloor – which I presume your basement is too. Hardwood installation on a concrete subfloor is similar in cost to ceramic where we live. We paid the remainder for hardwood. It was about a third more. When we looked into it, ceramic wasn't much different in cost than hardwood.
