When you read with discernment, seeking the revelation of the true nature of God who is love, you find that the overarching theme of the Bible is God's love for humanity and God's desire for us to be in right relationship with God and with each other. The Bible is written by men trying to put their experience of God and the world into their own cultural and historical context. We must read with discernment to find the revelations of God which transcend the cultures and historical contexts, that reveal the God who is love. We must read to separate the humans appropriating God to justify their power struggles that are the antithesis of agape love.

Our own Bible tells us that it is not itself the Word of God. The Bible tells us, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God." And, then goes on to tell us that Jesus is the Word made flesh. The Word existed before speech, before words, before writing. The Word is living and vibrant and speaks to each of us in the ways we best may hear if only we'll listen.
