While I understand your point. And, personally feel we writers could thank readers from a more personal perspective with more warmth and individuality. It does come off as trite and rather dismissive to just respond, "thank you for reading."

However, as a writer, I know that we are genuinely grateful for readers taking the time to comment or compliment our writing. It really does mean a great deal to us. And, like all humans, we often fail to fnd the words to express our gratitude, often in the depths of our own sense of inadequacy.
